On November 14th 2012, a very special event took place at AGBU Montreal's Jirayr and Elise Dervishian Hall.
The 90th anniversary of the birth of my father, the writer, translator, essayist, editor, publisher and intellectual Armen Tarian (Alphonse Attarian 1922-1990) was commemorated there, and two of his posthumous books, a selection of his letters (Yerevan, 2011) and a selection of his literary essays (Beirut, 2012) were launched in Montreal.
The event was championed by the renowned AGBU Montreal Manuel Keusseyan Armenian Studies Program.
One of the reviewers was Mr. Artoon Hamalian who came in specially from New York to participate. I was the other book reviewer on the program. Mr. Nareg Ghazarian and Mrs. Hermine Bechakjian read selections to the audience.
The event was more special because of three unique dimensions:
- To my knowledge, it was the first time ever in the Diaspora, that a lecturer son was reviewing the published essays of his lecturer father and analyzing the work critically. I am hoping that I did not disappoint the audience and my readers.
- For the first time ever, in the history of the AGBU Montreal Armenian Studies program, the event was broadcasted live on the Internet. This was thanks to the initiative of my friend, the innovative Vartkes Melkonian, the founding president of Allagma Technologies Inc. The initiative was ran as a pilot project, with an expected demand of about 100 viewers from around the globe. The actual count of those who connected to watch the event was closer to 400 and even peaked at close to 500. This created a serious technical overload on the broadcasting server, with the result that most were unable to follow the broadcast. The project was a victim of its own success and created valuable lessons learnt for future initiatives. I am hoping that this video posting will satisfy those who wanted to but could not follow the live broadcast.
- About a month earlier (October 9, 2012), a very dear friend and a great national benefactor, Mr. Jirayr Dervishian had passed away. He was the financial supporter of the Manuel Keusseyan Armenian Studies Program because it was dear to his heart and part of his vision for our people. At the time of this event, his lovely wife, dear Mrs. Elise Dervishian, was on her deathbed surrounded by all her loving family. She passed away, the next day to join her husband for eternity. It was extremely touching for me to speak at the AGBU Montreal Armenian Studies Program which was founded by their generosity and in the hall that bears their name. I therefore dedicate these postings to their loving memory.
Նոյեմբեր 14, 2012 ին, իւրայատուկ ձեռնարկ մը տեղի ունեցաւ Մոնթրէալի ՀԲԸՄի Ժիրայր եւ Էլիզ Տէրվիշեան սրահին մէջ:
Հօրս՝ արձակագիր, թարգմանիչ եւ գրագէտ, յօդուածագիր, խմբագիր, հրատարակիչ եւ մտաւորական Արմէն Դարեանի (Ալֆոնս Ադդարեան 1922-1990) ծննդեան 90-ամեակը յիշատակուեցաւ, իր, յետ-մահու հրատարակուած երկու հատորներու ներկայացումով: Գործերը կը պարունակէին մին՝ ընտրութիւններ իր նամականիէն, իսկ միւսն ալ նմանապէս՝ իր գրականագիտական դասախօսութիւններէն եւ յօդուածներէն:
Երեկոն մաս կը կազմէր ՀԲԸՄ Մոնթրէալի հանրածանօթ Մանուէլ Քէօսէեանի անուան Հայագիտականի լսարանի շարքին:
Հեղինակին նամակներու հատորը ներկայացուց Պրն. Արթուն Համալեանը, յատկապէս ժամանած Նիւ Եօրքէն: Ես օրուան ծրագրին երկրորդ բանախօսն էի: Պրն. Նարեկ Ղազարեանը եւ Տիկին Հերմինէ Պչաքճեանը ներկաներուն հրամցուցին ընթերցումներ երկու հատորներէն:
Ձեռնարկը իւրայատուկ էր երեք տեսակէտէ.
- Սփիւռքի պատմութեան մէջ, ըստ ինծի, առաջին անգամն է որ դասախօս որդի մը, քննադատականօրէն կը վերլուծէր իր դասախօս հօր տպագրուած գրականագիտական գործերը: Կը յուսամ որ ունկնդիրներն ու ընթերցողներս յուսախաբ չըրի:
- Մոնթրէալի ՀԲԸՄի հայագիտական դասախօսութիւններու համար՝ առաջին անգամ ըլլալով ուղղակի Համացանցային պատկերասծռում տեղի ունեցաւ: Այս նախաձեռնութիւնը կը պարտիմ թեքնիքական նորարար բարեկամիս, Պրն. Վարդգէս Մելքոնեանին, որ հիմնադիր նախագահն է Allagma Technologies Inc. ընկերութեան: Ծրագիրը փորձառական էր եւ կ'ակընկալէինք թէ առաւելագոյնը 100 հոգի պիտի կապուէին հեռակայօրէն: Մասնակիցներուն իսկական թիւը միջին հաշուով մօտ 400 էր եւ երբեմն ալ կը հասնէր մինչեւ 500ի: Այս իսկ պատճառաւ, պատկերասփռող գլխաւոր սարքաւորումը շատ ծանրաբեռնուած էր եւ մասնակիցներուն մեծամասնութիւնը անկարող էին հետեւելու: Ծրագիրը իր յաջողութեան զոհը դարձաւ, սակայն կարեւոր դասեր քաղուեցան ապագայի մօտեցումներու համար: Կը յուսամ թէ այս պատկերիզները տրամադրելի դարձնելով պիտի գոհունակութիւն պատճառեմ բոլոր անոնց որոնք չկարողացան ուղղակիօրէն հետեւիլ:
- Ձեռնարկէն մօտ ամիս մը առաջ (9 Հոկտեմբեր, 2012), կը մահանար բարեկամս եւ ազգային անզուգական բարերար Պրն. Ժիրայր Տէրվիշեանը: Ան գլխաւոր հիմնադիր մեկենասը եղաւ Մանուէլ Քէօսէեանի անուան հայագիտական դասընթացքներուն, որովհետեւ այդ ծրագիրը միշտ մօտ էր իր սիրտին, եւ կը հաւատար անոր ազգային առաքելութեան: Ձեռնարկին օրը, իր սիրելի տիկինը, Էլիզ Տէրվիշեանը, հոգեվարքի մէջ էր, շրջապատուած իր ընտանիքի հարազատներով, եւ յաջորդ օրը բաժնուեցաւ այս աշխարհէն, յաւիտանապէս միանալու համար իր սիրելի ամուսնոյն: Ինծի համար շատ յուզիչ էր այդ օր խօսք առնել իրենց առատաձեռնութեամբ հիմնուած հայագիտականի դասընթացքին, եւ մանաւանդ իրենց անունը կրող սրահին մէջ: Ուրեմն, թէեւ ուշացումով, իրենց յիշատակին կը ձօնեմ այս պատկերիզներու տրամադրելիութիւնը:
