Բանախօսութիւնը մաս կը կազմէր ՀԲԸՄ Մոնթրէալի Մանուէլ Քէօսէեանի անուան Հայագիտական դասընթացքներու շարքին եւ ներկայացուեցաւ կեդրոնի Ժիրայր եւ Էլիզ Տէրվիշեան սրահին մէջ:
On April 10, 2013, I was honored to present to the public, as the keynote speaker, the post-humously published collection of letters of my teacher Vahe-Vahian. The book was published under the title The Poet's Heart.
The lecture was part of the AGBU Montreal Manuel Keusseyan Armenian Studies program and was given at the Jirayr and Elise Dervishian hall of the center.
Հատորը ունի ծաւալային, հրատարակչական եւ պարունակական բազմաթիւ եզակի յատկութիւններ որոնց անդրադարձած եմ բանախօսութեանս մէջ:
Պարունակական յատկութիւններուն ամփոփ ցանկը այս է.
- Հեղինակը որպէս հայերէն լեզուի, մշակոյթի եւ գրականութեան արժանիքներուն նախանձախնդիր պաշտպանը, անընդմէջօրէն մտահոգ անոր մշակներուն նիւթական տագնապներով եւ որպէս անոնց ի գին աշխատող եռանդուն ծառան:
- Գրական ստեղծագործութեան պարագային, անոր մտասեւեռումը որակի վրայ որպէս միակ եւ բարձրագոյն չափանիշ, որուն զոհասեղանին վրայ պատրաստ է դնելու իր գործերն անգամ:
- Տասնամեակներու վրայ երկարող եւ զարգացող բարեկամութեան եւ նոյնիսկ հարազատութեան մշակում մը կարեւոր ազգային եւ գրական ու մշակութային անձնաւորութիւններու հետ:
- Մտերմական ու սիրային նամակներու շարքը որպէս հայ գրականութեան բանասիրական նոր ուսումնասիրութիւններու հարուստ ենթահող:
- Հեղինակը որպէս ծառացող իր ժամանակի անարդարութիւններուն դէմ որ չվախնար զանոնք ուղղակիօրէն դիմագրաւելէ եւ ձայն բարձրացնելէ ի նպաստ այդ արարքներու եւ իրողութիւններու զոհերուն:
- Նամակներու ընդմէջէն արծարծուող՝ հայ ժողովուրդի քսաներորդ դարու պատմութիւնը լուսաբանող մանրամասնութիւններ որոնց, իր ազգային դիրքին եւ յարաբերութիւններուն պատճառաւ, տեղեակ էր Վահէ-Վահեան:
The publication has some unique features from the perspective of sheer volume, editorial work, but mostly as it relates to its content, all of which are addressed in the lecture. As for the content, here is a brief summary of its unique perspectives:
- The author emerges as the concerned defender of the values of the Armenian language, culture and literature, but who is also ceaselessly aware of the financial difficulties of all those who toil in this field and who is self-mobilized to assist them.
- As far as literary creation is concerned, Vahe-Vahian has only a single and supreme criterion for judgement. Quality! The author even asks that his own work be judged with the same high literary standards that he has set for all.
- The letters bear witness to a friendship that evolves over a period of several decades with key national, literary and cultural personalities.
- His intimate love letters are now fertile ground for further research on analytical literary topics.
- The author is a witness to many injustices and is not afraid to stand up in the defense of all victims of such injustices, never shying away from using his contacts to assist those in need.
- Certain minutiae of the 20th century history of our people emerge in the details that merit further attention, as Vahe-Vahian was privy to them because of his position as a national cultural figure.
Բանախօսութեան յաջորդող քանի մը օրերուն, համացանցային նամակագրութիւն ունեցայ Վահէ-Վահեանի որդիին, Ցոլակ Ապտալեանին հետ որուն կը պարտիմ հետեւեալ ճշդումները.
- Պռումմանայի երկրորդական վարժարանը ուր կը դասաւանդէր Վահէ-Վահեան, մանչերու երկրորդական վարժարան էր եւ ո'չ թէ աղջկանց, եւ միմիայն յետագային է որ վերածուեցաւ երկսեռ վարժարանի:
- Խմբագրական կազմին մէջ յիշատակած եմ Աւետիս Սանճեանը սակայն փաստօրէն անոր եղբորորդին, Դոկտ. Արա Սանճեանն է որ մաս կազմած է այդ խմբակին:
- Պատկերիզին մէջ հարցումի մը որպէս պատասխան յիշած եմ թէ Վահէ-Վահեանի «Անի» հանդէսը լոյս տեսած է մօտաւորապէս քսան տարի: Չարաչար սխալած եմ այդտեղ եւ այսու կը յայտարարեմ թէ «Անի»ն լոյս տեսած է ինը տարի 1946-էն մինչեւ 1955, այդ ալ՝ ընդմիջումներով: Ունկնդիրներուս ներողամտութիւնը կը խնդրեմ ուրեմն:
A few days after the lecture, I was corresponding with the author's son Tsolak Abdalian, who pointed out certain errors that I had made.
- The Broummana High School referred to, where Vahe-Vahian taught, was a boys' school at the time and not a girls' school. It became co-ed much later.
- I had mentioned Avedis Sanjian, as being a member of the editorial team, whereas, it should have been Dr. Ara Sanjian, who also happens to be the nephew of Prof. Avedis Sanjian.
I acknowledge that these and all errors are my own, and am very grateful to my friend, Tsolak, for setting the record straight. I would also like to add one other factual error which I made.
- In the posted lecture video, I answer a question from the audience about the length of the publication period of the literary magazine Ani which Vahe-Vahian edited to be twenty years. I hereby declare that I was sorely mistaken, and it should have been nine years. Ani was published from 1946 to 1955, and even then, not continuously. I hereby beg my audience for forgiveness.

The event consisted of three main sections. An introduction by the coordinating director of the lecture series, Mr. Chahe Tanachian, a short poetry recital of one of the author's poems, by two pupils of the AGBU Alex Manoogian school, and then my own lecture which ends with a question-and-answer session.
